Student Lates

Over the past while we have noticed a marked increase in the number of students who are arriving late for school in the morning. This week we averaged approximately 50-55 morning lates per day. This is roughly 7-8% of our total population. A reminder that we expect students to be in their homerooms by 8:20 AM. We do realize that there are circumstances that are out of our control when students will be late – poor weather, Calgary Transit delays, appointments, etc.. If You do know that your student is going to be late for school, please call the office attendance line and let us know.

Students who are late miss out on important classroom announcements and teaching time. When students enter the classroom late, he/she creates a disruption which interferes with the learning environment of all students who are prepared and ready to learn. Chronic tardiness is habit forming and can impact a student long term.

A change in your child’s schedule or particular attention to organization is often all that is needed to manage this issue effectively. We would appreciate you working with your student to ensure that they are on time for school.

Before High School graduation, one-third of adolescent girls will experience depression, anxiety disorders, self-harm or an eating disorder. However, there is an incredible power in caregivers who can support our youth, both young women and men, before they seek therapy. At Juno House®, we believe in the extraordinary healing power of parents, caregivers, coaches, and teachers. In our 1.5 hour workshop presentation, we will share steps and strategies from the Juno House Therapeutic Model® that will provide effective emotional coaching tools for today’s youth as they develop through adolescence and into young adulthood.

Presenters include Andrea Halwas Larsen, PhD, CT, REACE Counselling Therapist Associate Therapist and Education Coordinator at Juno House.
