Meet the Teacher – Thursday, September 19, 6:00 – 7:30 PM
We are very excited to welcome our HDC families to the school this upcoming Thursday. It will be “drop in” style where families can come anytime from 6:00 to 7:30 PM to tour the school and meet their children’s teachers. The location of your student’s teachers will be posted in the front foyer to direct you. We look forward to seeing you then!
City of Calgary LEAD Program at HDC
The City of Calgary is partnering with Calgary Afterschool to offer a LEAD program at HD Cartwright School. This free afterschool program is open to any student in Grade 7-9 and aims to help youth build upon their leadership skills, gain valuable leadership experience, and will give them an opportunity to make a difference in the community. This interactive, creative and fun certificate program is designed to teach positive self-esteem, teamwork, positive relationships with peers and the community.
Dates: Monday & Wednesday - September 23, 2024 to May 15, 2025
Time: 3:10 PM – 5:10 PM
Location: H.D. Cartwright School – Drama Room
Students interested in participating can return the required forms (attached below OR available at the office) to the school office. Space in the program is limited and as such, interested students should submit their forms ASAP.
HDC School Council Annual General Meeting – Monday, September 23
Please join us for our September School Council meeting on Monday, September 23rd at 6:30 PM in the HDC Learning Commons. This meeting is open to ALL parents and guardians of HDC students. Being involved in School Council is a great way for parents to be involved in our school community!
This will be our first meeting of the year and serve as our Annual General Meeting. We are looking to fill some key positions on our school council this year so are looking forward to a big turnout. Look for additional information about School Council in a separate communication that will be sent out to families in the next week.
HDC School Store Open!
Get your HDC School Swag!!!! The online store will be open from September 6 - September 23, 2024.
There are a variety of options, colours, sizes and designs. All items are of high quality, and some can be personalized. Orders will be delivered directly to school and handed out to students upon arrival, the week of October 15, 2024.
HDC Physical Education
Our Physical Education programs are in full swing and students experienced their first real “Fab Friday” with the Buzz Game. Our students put in an excellent effort towards fitness games, and they left the gym sweating!
We would like to remind families of the importance of proper footwear in PE from Monday to Friday. Crocs, Slides, Boots, etc. will not be permitted for use in PE activities. Thank you for your support in this matter of safety. As the weather gets cooler, please keep in mind the weather when planning for Physical Education Activities.
For the weeks of Sept 16-27, Students will be participating in the following activities, according to homeroom.

HDC Cougar Athletics
Thank you to all students who tried out for HDC soccer teams. The girls and boys soccer teams are now set, and games will begin next week! Please ensure that all forms have been completed and that athletes check the schedules for games and practices.
Cross Country team will be participating in the next meet on Tuesday, September 17th. Good luck to all our runners!
Basketball Tryouts and practices will continue next week as well.
