Dear Parents / Guardians of HDC students,

With the temperatures rising up into the double digits (at least for now!) it bring along the first signs of Spring! I'm sure we are all looking forward to warmer weather and hopefully there will be some heading our way for our upcoming Spring Break which runs from Friday, March 22 to Monday, April 1st. Before that, we have a busy upcoming week at HDC with our Spring Spirit Week activities  and of course our second set of Student Learning Conferences on March 21 and 22. We look forward to connecting with families at conferences.

This will be our final Weekly Message until after Spring Break - we hope that all our students and families have a fantastic upcoming holiday break!

CBE Student Survey

HDC Grade 8 and 9 students will be participating in an online school perception survey for students called the CBE Student Survey. Students will be completing it next week. Please find additional details of the survey implementation below.

About the CBE Student Survey

  • Allows students to voice their feedback on their experiences at school, the school environment and school improvement programs.
  • Based on their feedback, students have the opportunity to be involved in action plans fostering increased student engagement.
  • The survey should take about 60 to 80 minutes to complete.

The CBE Student Survey is an opportunity for students to:

  • report on themselves, their own abilities, and their accomplishments; and
  • take pride in what they have achieved.

In alignment with CBE’s Education Plan, the results are used in school and district reports to demonstrate that students are:

  • at the centre of all CBE decisions;
  • able to integrate and apply the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and competencies they are acquiring across all academic disciplines; and
  • demonstrating Citizenship, Personal Development and Character in and through learning.

If you have questions or would like to request more information about the upcoming implementation of the CBE Student Survey, please contact the school.

HD Cartwright School Planning Survey

This is the time of year where we engage with families to input on our School Development Plan, Budget and Fees for the upcoming 2024-2025 school year. Parent input and voice is extremely important and helps to inform our decision making as we look to next year. Please take the time (approximately 5-7 minutes)

You can access the survey at:

https://hdcartwright.cbedialogue.com/en/projects/hd-cartwright-school-engagement-2023-24/engagements/school-planning-survey-2024-hd-cartwright

Thank you in advance for taking the time to provide us with some feedback! The survey will be open until March 31, 2024.

Physical Education and Athletics Update

Volleyball

HDC Volleyball teams have all finished their season. All teams improved their skills and teamwork and had a lot of fun playing together this year, but unfortunately lost their quarter final games. Thank you to all coaches and parents for their time and efforts to provide this opportunity for our athletes!

Please return all jerseys and shorts to the PE office as soon as possible.

Volleyball wind up party is on Monday March 18 from 3:15-4:30pm. Athletes and coaches from all of our teams are welcome to attend, for an afternoon of fun, playing volleyball and eating pizza and snacks.

Badminton Tryouts

Badminton tryouts will begin on Tuesday April 2. The tryout schedule and coaches list are posted on the PE bulletin board as well as on the school website. We will have a team for each grade (7, 8, 9), and all students are welcome to try out. If your child cannot make it to a tryout, please ensure they bring it to the attention of the coach as soon as possible. It is important that students attend as many tryouts as they can, in order to demonstrate their skills and sportsmanship.

Physical Education

As the weather warms up we would like to inform everyone that we will be doing our Track and Field unit in Phys Ed, commencing after Spring Break. This unit provides all students the opportunity to try each event in Track and Field before the season of play and tryouts begin (May 16 start, Track Meet on June 17). Majority of this PE unit is held outdoors, so please ensure your child has proper footwear and clothing at school each day in order to participate fully in each event.

All Students should have a pair of running shoes at school for PE every day. Wearing Crocs, Slides and Boots are not allowed as it poses a safety risk to students and limits their ability to participate fully. Thank you for supporting your student in this matter.
