CTF / Option Selection 2024-25 School Year
We are finalizing our CTF / option offerings for our current Grade 7 and 8 students. We will be working with students over the next couple of weeks to dicuss the offerings with them and to get their selections and choices entered into PowerSchool. We will send out a communication to families next week with more information.
Individual Program Plans
Students with Individual Program Plans (IPP) will be receiving their final IPP for the year later this week. The update includes information on how your child is doing in respect to their goals, transition notes and recommendations for how to best support your child in the coming school year. Please review the IPP and contact your child’s homeroom teacher if you have any questions. Signed IPPs should be returned to the main office by Friday, June 21st at the latest.
Outstanding School Fees
As we approach the end of the school year, we request that families check their MyCBE Fees Account. The unpaid fees may include field trips, options course fees and lost library books.
Cougar Athletics
Track and Field
Track and Field teams have now been selected. Congratulations to all athletes that will be participating in events this year. Thank you to all coaches for their time and efforts to run tryouts and practices the past few weeks.
Please ensure that your athlete returns their forms to confirm their attendance by WEDNESDAY JUNE 12 to the PE office. Athletics shirts can be purchased for $10 in the main office, or athletes can borrow a track and field shirt for the day.
We are also seeking out some parent volunteers for the Track and Field Meet on June 17. Parents would be helping out in the stands, cheering on our athletes and helping them get to events on time. Please contact Mrs. Kanary if you would like to attend as a volunteer that day!
HDC Touch Football
Our first ever HDC Touch football team participated in a tournament with 12 other schools last Friday. They had fun learning how to play the game and showed great sportsmanship throughout the tournament. Although we lost our games, we had some students step up to be great leaders on the team, made some great plays, had some touchdowns, and great defense! Thank you to all coaches who put in their time with the new sport and thank you to all families who came to watch and drive athletes' home after a long, hot day of fun in south Calgary!
Physical Education
As the hot weather is finally here, we would like to remind all families that students should have proper footwear, a water bottle, comfortable clothing and a sun hat each day if possible. We also recommend sunscreen and bug spray as needed. The last two weeks of school will involve many activities and games outdoors and these items will help ensure your child’s safety when participating.
Cougar Carnival – June 25
HDC is hosting a Cougar Carnival in the gym on June 25! Design 7 and 8 students have created over 30 games, kiosks and food booths for HDC students to visit and enjoy during their Phys Ed class that day: bowling, balloon games, basketball challenges, dunk tank, cotton candy, ice cream, and face painting - to name a few. Students will come and play to win PRIZES!
Starting Thursday, May 30, tickets will be available for purchase either during homeroom or at lunch in the Foods room for 25 cents each. Most games and booths will cost between 2 - 5 tickets. Food will range from 2 - 10 tickets depending on the treat. All money raised will be donated to The Humane Society. Students that have purchased tickets will be invited to participate in carnival activities that day. Students without tickets will be provided with an alternative activity supervised by their Phys Ed teacher.
Tickets can also be acquired by bringing in a non-perishable food item for donation to the Calgary food bank. All donations will be collected in the Foods room at lunch for 2 tickets/item.
All games/booths/kiosks will only accept pre-bought tickets that day. No cash will be exchanged during the event. Tickets will be sold until the end of lunch on Monday, June 24.
