Kindness Week at HDC

In conjuction with Pink Shirt Day on February 26, HDC is running Kindness Week activities this week and are encouraging all students and staff to participate! 

  • Mon, Feb. 24​:  Wear your favourite colour - Get your picture taken at 12:25 in Band Room​
  • Tues, Feb. 25: Make a new friend! Introduce yourself to someone new!​
  • ​Wed, Feb. 26​:  PINK SHIRT DAY ​- wear pink to show your support to stand up and stop bullying! 
  • ​Thurs, Feb. 27​:  Kindness (Texas) Donuts for sale – buy for you and a friend!​

CUPE Labour Action - Reminders for Families  

On February 19, 2025, CUPE Local 40 served 72-hour strike notice to the CBE. This means that the union will withdraw services beginning Monday, February 24, 2025.  

CBE Schools Are Open for In-Person Instruction 

We are committed to keeping schools safe for students and staff and complying with AHS guidelines and occupational health and safety regulations. This means that schools will be cleaned after dismissal. 

We know our schools are busy places and used for variety of activities that support students and the community. To allow our schools to be cleaned adequately after school hours, the following decisions have been made.    

School Hours   

There are no changes to school start and end times.   To allow for cleaning after school hours, students and staff will be asked to leave the school no later than 45 minutes after the end of the school day.   

 Activities After School Hours   

Any athletic practices, fine arts rehearsals or other curricular activities will continue. The goal is for these activities to end by 6 p.m.    

The volleyball season (including tournaments) for middle schools will continue as scheduled. At this time, middle school athletics scheduled beyond the volleyball season are paused.   

Attendance at athletic games will be limited to parents/guardians of those athletes directly involved in the event. Students will not be permitted to attend athletic games unless they are the siblings of one of the athletes and are accompanied by a parent/guardian. Access will be limited to the gymnasium; no access will be permitted to other parts of the school.   

Thank You Casino Volunteers!  

A massive thank you to all of those parents, family members, and friends who volunteered their time this past weekend at our HDC Parent Association’s casino. This is our school’s largest fundraiser with money raised going to residencies, school resources and much more. A special thank you to School Council / Parent Association executive members Regan W, Krista H, and Christie D for all of their additional time spent organizing and planning for the event. All of your efforts are so very much appreciated! 

HDC Yearbook – Order Deadline is February 25

The deadline for students/families to order their HDC 2024-55 yearbook is Tuesday, February 25.  A yearbook provides students with a wonderful memento of their time at HD Cartwright that they will cherish through the years.  Every June we have many students that are disappointed to learn that they didn’t pre-order their book, and we want to avoid this as much as possible. 

If you are interested in purchasing a book for this year, please do so through the School Fees option in Powerschool, or by going directly to the Business Office during school hours.  Again – the final day to order is Tuesday, February 25.                 

When ordering through Powerschool, the following are the step-by-step instructions to order and pay for the yearbook fee: 

  • Step 1: Log in to the PowerSchool Portal 
  • Step 2: Scroll down to the left-hand corner (navigation tools) 
  • Step 3: Click on the ‘Student Fees and Service Registration’ 
  • Step 4: ‘Student Fees and Service Registration’ screen is brought up (link that says school based optional fees – please click on that link) 
  • Step 5: School Yearbook (please add it to your cart) 
  • Step 6: Click on shopping cart in the right-hand corner and brings you to the payment page 
  • Step 7: Pay fee using options provided
