Precautions for the Solar Eclipse on Monday, April 8
On Monday, April 8 a partial solar eclipse will be visible in Calgary. The solar event will begin just before noon and conclude by 2:00 p.m., with the maximum coverage occurring at 12:43 p.m.
We know that this provides a unique learning experience for students and staff in our schools; however, there can be serious impacts to vision as a result of viewing the eclipse in an unsafe manner.
During this partial solar eclipse on Monday, we would like to invite all students to remain at school during the lunch break. Please send lunch with your child. If students are not participating in educational activities around the event, schools may choose to have students will be involved in supervised indoor activities.
If you decide that your child will walk home for lunch on Monday, please discuss with your child not to look at the sun to protect his/her eyes from damage by the solar eclipse.
During a solar eclipse, looking directly at the sun is dangerous. Safe viewing of the eclipse requires wearing specialized glasses or watching through a telescope or solar binoculars that have specialized lenses and should only be performed under the direction of a professional.
For more safety information can be found on the NASA website or from the Canadian Association of Optometrists.
If you have further questions, please contact your school office.

Cougar Athletic Updates
Badminton tryouts will began on Tuesday April 2 and will continue next week. The tryout schedule and coaches list are posted on the PE bulletin board and the school website. We will have a team for each grade (7, 8, 9), and all students are welcome to try out. If your child cannot make it to a tryout, please ensure they bring it to the attention of the coach as soon as possible. It is important that students attend as many tryouts as they can, in order to demonstrate their skills and sportsmanship.
Physical Education Reminders
As the weather warms up, we would like to remind everyone that we will be contining our Track and Field unit in Phys Ed. This unit provides all students the opportunity to try each event in Track and Field before the season of play and tryouts begin (May 16 start, Track Meet on June 17). Most of this PE unit is held outdoors, so please ensure your child has proper footwear and clothing at school each day to participate fully in each event.
All Students should have a pair of running shoes at school for PE every day. Wearing Crocs, Slides and Boots are not allowed as it poses a safety risk to students and limits their ability to participate fully. Thank you for supporting your student in this matter.
